2005-06 & 2007 Classic Models
- Remove or disconnect the following:
Wheel assembliesEngine shield, if equippedStabilizer shaftPower steering high and low pressure linesCoupler clamp bolt from the intermediate shaftOuter tie rod ends from steering knuckleIntermediate shaft from the rack and pinion assemblyRack and pinion assembly mounting nuts, washers and boltsRack and pinion assembly from the vehicle
To install:
- Install or connect the following:
Rack and pinion assembly into the vehicleRack and pinion assembly mounting bolts, washers and nuts. Tighten the nuts to 136 ft. lbs. (185 Nm).Intermediate shaft to the rack and pinion assemblyCoupler clamp bolt to the intermediate shaft. Tighten the bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).Low pressure hoseHigh pressure hose. Tighten the hoses to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).Outer tie rod endsEngine protection shield, if equippedStabilizer shaftWheels - Lower the vehicle.
- Fill and bleed the power steering system.
Except Classic
- Remove as much power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
Wheel assembliesEngine shield, if equippedCoupler clamp bolt from the intermediate shaftOuter tie rod ends from steering knucklePower steering high and low pressure line retaining platePower steering high and low pressure lines, then plug them to prevent leakage and contaminationRack and pinion assembly mounting nuts, washers and boltsRack and pinion assembly from the vehicle
To install:
- Install or connect the following:
Rack and pinion assembly into the vehicleRack and pinion assembly mounting bolts, washers and nuts. Tighten the left side bolts to 148 ft. lbs. (200 Nm) and the right side bolts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).Intermediate shaft to the rack and pinion assemblyCoupler clamp bolt to the intermediate shaft. Tighten the bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).Low pressure line and high pressure line. Tighten the retaining plate to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm)Outer tie rod endsEngine protection shield, if equippedWheels - Lower the vehicle.
- Fill and bleed the power steering system.
