Is it possible for oil to leak due to faulty Knock Sensor

OIL LEAKING DUE TO KNOCK SENSOR

Its very rare for oil leaking due to knock sensor.

Common Causes of Car Oil Leaks?

Avenger Leaks oil while driving, mechanic suggested faulty Knock sensor ............

I doubt proper inspection is done, as per our garage repair experience, its very rare for such problem.

There's no way oil should be leaking from the knock sensor.

Why because?
The location of Knock sensor is under intake.
The knock sensor simply threads into a shallow hole in the engine block under the intake area.
And its a closed sensor. The end of the sensor isn't open, and there would never be any oil in the whole in the first place unless there was a problem with the engine block itself. If that was the case then the oil would be coming out from the sensor threads, not the sensor.
So first get the sensor threads inspected. If you notice oil getting accumulated there and then forming a leak, then its engine block issue, but not Knock sensor issue.Get help from another auto mechanic.

As per our car repair experience and dealing with such issues the problem in these case is the oil pressure sending unit.
Why oil pressure sending unit?

These has a reason!

  • The oil sender threads into the back of the engine block.
  • Like how knock sensor is close at its end the oil sender is open to a passage with pressurized oil to be able to monitor pressure.
  • Why will oil get into knock sensor with out any engine failure issue noticed, but Oil actually goes into the sensor and presses against a diaphragm to create the pressure signal.
  • As we at our auto repair garage have actually repaired and dealt with such issues. So on that basis i will say that, what actually  happens  is the diaphragm ruptures and allows oil to enter the sensor and then it will leak from the sensor's electrical connector. And these is what exactly happening in your case.
This isn't an uncommon issue.

Hope these details help you.

Thanks.

Jeep Oil pressure gauge reads very high

Oil pressure issues on Jeep

Oil pressure gauge reads high when engine is turned ON and comes to normal when ignition is off.

First understand its working:----

The oil pressure sensor in on the engine.

The oil pressure sensor receives the signal from oil pressure gauge.

Now when oil pressure sensor receives the signal it starts its operation.
The oil pressure sensor alters the electrical signal from the oil pressure gauge in relationship to oil pressure.

The oil pressure sensor has to deal will all  heat, cold and vibration. And due to these reasons it is not uncommon for the internal seal of the sensor to fail allowing oil to enter the electrical part of the sensor.
And due to these reasons. The oil really messes things up and causes the oil pressure gauge readings to become erratic and unreliable.
As per our Auto garage repair experiences i will say in most cases the fix is a replacement pressure sensor.

So first inspect the condition of the sensor. These will let us know the exact cause or problem.
If possible always go with branded parts compared to local cheap aftermarket Auto parts.

Jeep Dash Board Display dying?

Dash Display Dying on jeep Cherokee

It can be faulty instrument cluster board or its issue with no voltage power supply the instrument cluster board.

Try these reset procedure.

Disconnect the battery for few minutes. Then reconnect battery and turn the car to start and see if display lights up or not.

One some cases these reset has helped, but the same problem continues after few hours of driving.on some cases these reset has not helped.

On most of such cases it was faulty loose wire to the instrument cluster board. Removing the instrument cluster panel out and reconnecting the loose and dirty wires helped.

But if all checked ok and still dash display comes and goes off then go to your Jeep dealer or a repair facility with the correct computer scan tools and have them perform a check of the Body Control Module (BCM).

Because as per the problem mentioned both instrument panel display and the overhead display are going down it may be that the BCM has a problem.
Get the vehicle computer module scanned properly,to if there is any error code stored and that is causing the problem.
If there are no codes present, then its faulty BCM. But before directly replacing BCM confirm the problem with BCM. To confirm the issue with BCM there is a test called Function test.
The function test can be performed via a scan tool. The function test allows the technician to command dash gauges and warning lights to cycle. BCM’s do fail and replacements are costly. You’ll want to be sure that there are no other system or connection problems before you replace the BCM.

These details will help.
Thanks.

Is my car having computer or Not?

Cars with computer chips

Old model cars were not having any kind of computers controlled system. But due to these lots of car  problem were very difficult to diagnose.
And in some cases it was very time consuming to locate the fault and resolve the issue.

Due to these problems, computer controlled systems were integrated in cars.

Its like PCM, BCM, ECU,ECM ect.

Power control module, Power train control module, Body control module,Engine control unit,Engine control module.

So now there is not a vehicle, passenger car or truck sold today in the US that doesn't have a computer.
In most vehicles there is a minimum of 2 computers. Your vehicle is of no exception and likely has computers.
With all of that computer type stuff, there’s a bunch of computer chips inside computer modules. You cannot replace the computer chips in the module. If the computer has an internal problem, it has to be replaced.
You cannot upgrade the chip,by inserting latest version chips in your car's old  computer module. If you’re looking to go with a high performance program, then you install another computer (which could be called a chip) right at the computer for the engine. Its called module. This module plugs right into the computer control box and the wiring to the computer is plugged into the module.
Inside the module there is a certain program by which the car gets controlled. The car controls its electrical adjustments.Like speed control,Air control,Dash lights,Error indications on dash, temp control etc etc.
On some car models the module can be programmed to latest version, but on some its not possible to program the module, but replacement is the only option.
The program in the module modifies information to the engine computer to alter its performance characteristics .
There are software programs with hardware available that will even allow someone to reprogram the vehicle’s computer chips at the computer’s diagnostic connector. You can purchase these from auto parts store or from dealer.

These details will help.
Thanks.

Low Oil Pressure Issues On Jeep Grand Cherokee

Oil pressure getting low on Jeep

Replaced Oil pump,Oil sending unit,Oil filter and also the oil but problem is still the same.

After driving for few minutes the oil pressure seems low

the “check gauges” light comes on “no oil pressure” after it runs a little while it comes back.

As per our Auto garage repair experience i will share the troubleshooting for these problem

NOTE:--- The oil pressure gauge along with just about every part of your instrument display is computer generated.

Many a times the actual problem is not there but you still get indication on dashboard about the problem.

That’s right it is not real. That is the result of a computers interpretation of data that is then displayed on the instrument panel.

As per our Auto garage car repair experience in these field i will say that only hard wired (stuff that is connected to what is it’s displaying) is the 4 wheel drive indicator, left and right turn signal indicators and the brake warning light.

As its already mentioned that all possible parts related to oil pump are already been replaced, but still the problem can arise.
An oil pump is a mechanical device and when worn, loose or with a restricted pick-up screen can be erratic.
But other then oil system related parts there are few other possibilities that can cause the problem .

  • The worn out engine bearings will cause low oil pressure.
  • A dirty oil pump will cause, low oil pressure issues. The oil pan has to be cleaned and the pick-up tube & screen are to be replaced with the new oil pump.

as per the dashboard indication of Low oil pressure light, possible parts are replaced.
But  there’s a question of was the oil pump really the problem?
Well the oil pressure gauge said there was a problem. But was it?

If all possibilities are replaced but the problem is still there, then its issue with engine.Replacing an engine in today’s vehicles is big money and having that engine fail some place other than in a garage driveway causes more money and aggravation.

On such cases, its first suggested to get the oil pressure inspected by pressure testing tool.
Install a mechanical type oil pressure gauge. The type that has a line that takes oil right from the engine to the gauge for the pressure reading.

THE WAYS TO MEASURE THE OIL PRESSURE:---

  • Connect the pressure tool device neatly for the long haul. Then drive the vehicle and compare the dash display oil pressure to the gauge pressure.
If the external oil pressure measuring device is showing no loss of oil pressure, but gauges on instrument cluster showing drop in oil pressure then there is mostly  mechanical gauge over the computer’s interpretation.

If the oil pressure really does drop on both gauges, then you’d better be looking more closely at the engine’s lubrication system.
Because all other possibilities are already been replaced,so last option is engine lubrication and engine inspection.
One more thing i would like to point you is,about the parts,if possible always use genuine and branded parts. Also use actually recommended oil. Don't use non branded parts or low quality oil.

Because by using such parts, you never know, whether the problem is related to parts or its any other thing causing it.

Hope these helps.
Thanks.

Ford F150 power window relay

Power windows not working

First check fuse, the big 30 fuse in the engine compartment.

There is a relay in the fuse box under the dash that controls power to the windows, but it also supplies power to the door locks and radio. Are these two things working properly?

If yes then relay is most probably ok.

OTHER POSSIBILITY TO CHECK ..........

There is a large circuit breaker in the fuse box near the center more towards the bottom.
Pull it out and check voltage on both sides of the circuit breaker or you can pull it out, check voltage going to the connector (you will have voltage only on one side with it removed) and then check the resistance of the circuit breaker. Either way is good. This circuit breaker supplies the voltage to the power windows and the rear slider only.

PLEASE NOTE:----

The voltage should pass through the circuit breaker into a light blue/black wire. This wire goes to each of the window switches and the rear sliding window switch. If you have voltage on both sides of the circuit breaker and nothing at the switches, then you will need to check for an open in the circuit. The wire goes into the fuse box through a 6 pin connector. Make sure all the connectors are seated in the fuse panel.

Also check ground connector for the system

The connector is located behind the right side kick panel ( the kick panel is the panel your right foot would hit if you where sitting in the passenger seat ) remove that panel and you will find some wires bolted to the body .

See the diagram shown below for its location:----
The connector you have to view is G-200

ground wiring connector

See below the relay location and its wiring

You have to also check ACC relay.

That is accessory control relay of your vehicle

On the interior fuse panel there is a relay called the ACC DELAY RELAY--- its the bottom one ( see pic)

ACC relay ford

What you have to do is remove this relay ,and look at the bottom of the relay ,,,there are numbers next to each pin on the relay like 85.86.87 and 30 .

You will have to remove relay and apply jumper wire to by pass the relay and then see, jump wire pin 30 goes into the fuse panel to pin 87 goes in the fuse panel ---this will bypass the relay ---then test your windows and see if there is a difference

See below wiring diagram

power windows wiring diagram

If you jump the relay and windows work then its issue with relay and replacing the relay will help you.

One more thing, there is one more relay to be tested .............
The relay above the ACC DELAY RELAY is the ONE TOUCH RELAY ,,,,this relay is for the driver window going down, and its the same type of relay -----take that relay out and switch it to the ACC DELAY RELAY spot ( now this will make the drivers window not work ) but test the passengers side power window ,,and if works great then its confirm that the ACC DELAY RELAY is bad .

If you get no power at ACC relay then there can be issue with battery saver relay.

As i have provided the relay box panel diagram above, just take  look of the pic of the fuse box---the battery saver relay is the second relay down ---the battery relay powers up the acc delay relay ---so now we have to jump it ---remove the battery relay and look at the bottom of the relay it has numbers on it like 1,2,3,4,5,---- jump pin 3 to pin 5 with your paper clip and see if ACC relay gets power and windows start operating.

But if all checked ok and still windows not working then problem is with GEM module.

It has to be replaced.

Also in the engine compartment under hood check the fuse

put all relays back into place ---now open the hood and find fuse 25 in the fuse box ( see pic)
wiggle this fuse -move it around -while someone operates the windows and see if it clears up -

ford under hood fuse box

Also view the wiring diagram for under hood engine compartment components

These details will help.
Thanks.

Radiator Fan Not working on Dodge

2001 Dodge Durango Engine cooling/ radiator fan is not working

The issue can give short/ loose wiring or faulty fuse

There are few related fuse box and wiring diagram to trace the problem :----

The radiator fan is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) which in turn controls the relay that controls the fan:

See the wiring diagram shown below:----

Radiator fan wiring diagram

It can be any of the one thing that can cause these problem.A faulty fan relay or fan controlling fuse or problem with PCM.on some rare cases all of the 3 needs to be replaced.

First  check the #15 fuse under the hood and see if its blown. Check for 12 volts at the terminals of the fuse if you have a multimeter or test light. If no 12 volts on both sides, these clears that fuse is blown.
Also make sure the key is turned on .
Another fuse to be checked is check the #10 fuse as well.

The  fan stops working due to :----
The fan starts drawing to much current and then damages the fan relay and the terminals that it plugs into and sometimes damages the PCM as well. IF so than all three of these items would have to be replaced.

So start with checking the 2 fuses and then remove the radiator fan relay that is also located in the fuse box and inspect the terminals where it plugs into to see if any appear melted, distorted, or discolored.

Also see the fuse box diagram shown below:----
