Air Mix/Mode Actuator (Blend Door)




Removal & Installation



  1. Remove the right rear quarter trim panel.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the mode actuator-auxiliary.
  3. Remove the mode actuator-auxiliary from the HVAC module-auxiliary.
  4. Remove the retaining screws from the mode actuator-auxiliary.

To install:

  1. Install the mode actuator to the HVAC module-auxiliary.
  2. Install the screws to the mode actuator-auxiliary. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  3. Connect the electrical connector to the mode actuator-auxiliary (1).
  4. Install the right rear quarter trim panel.
  5. Calibrate the HVAC module actuators.

Air Mix /Mode Actuator (Blend Door)


Removal & Installation



Bravada

The mode actuator is located on the top left side of the HVAC module.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the knee bolster.
  3. Remove the right side driver knee bolster bracket from the steering column bracket and the intermediate bracket.
  4. Disconnect the vacuum connectors from the mode actuator.
  5. Remove the actuator rod retaining clip.
  6. Remove the actuator rod from the mode door lever.
  7. Firmly pull on the mode actuator in order to remove the actuator from the HVAC module.

To install:

  1. Install the mode actuator. Ensure that the retaining tabs lock into place.
  2. Install the actuator rod to the mode door lever.
  3. Install the actuator rod retaining clip.
  4. Connect the vacuum connectors to the mode actuator.
  5. Install the right side driver knee bolster bracket to the steering column bracket and the intermediate bracket.
  6. Tighten the knee bolster bracket mounting nuts to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm). Tighten the intermediate bracket mounting bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  7. Install the knee bolster.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

Recalibrating Actuators



When replacing the auxiliary HVAC control module it will be necessary to allow the auxiliary HVAC control module to perform a calibration process. When installing the auxiliary HVAC control module be sure to perform the following:

  1. Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the scan tool.
  3. Install the auxiliary HVAC control module.
  4. Connect all previously disconnected components.
  5. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  6. Wait 40 seconds for the auxiliary HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
  7. Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.

When replacing an auxiliary HVAC actuator it will be necessary to allow the auxiliary HVAC control module to perform a calibration process. When installing the auxiliary HVAC actuator be sure to perform one of the following:


NOTE
Auxiliary HVAC blower operation is disabled during the re-calibration process.

Alternate Method (W/O Scan Tool)
  1. Clear all DTCs.
  2. Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  3. Install the auxiliary HVAC actuator.
  4. Connect all previously disconnected components.
  5. Remove the HVAC B fuse for a minimum of 10 seconds.
  6. Install the HVAC B fuse.
  7. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  8. Wait 40 seconds for the auxiliary HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
  9. Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.

Preferred Method (W/ Scan Tool)
  1. Clear all DTCs.
  2. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
  3. Install the auxiliary HVAC actuator.
  4. Connect all previously disconnected components.
  5. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  6. With the scan tool, initiate the HVAC Actuator Recal. feature of the RHVAC/RSA module Special Functions menu.
  7. Verify that no DTCs have set as current DTCs.

HVAC Module


Removal & Installation




CAUTION
Before beginning this procedure, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section. Only a MVAC-trained, EPA-certified, automotive technician should service the A/C system or its components.

  1. Recover the refrigerant, as outlined in this section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4. Remove the nuts from rear A/C line block fittings.
    NOTE
    Cap or tape the open A/C refrigerant lines immediately.

  5. Remove the A/C line block fittings and discard the O-ring seals.
  6. Remove the nuts from the heater hoses block fittings.
  7. Remove the heater hoses block fittings from the HVAC module-auxiliary.
  8. Remove the nuts from the HVAC module studs.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Remove the right side rear quarter trim.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the HVAC module.
  12. Disconnect the rear compartment air outlet ducts from the HVAC module.
  13. Remove the mounting bolts from the HVAC module.
  14. Remove the HVAC module.
  15. Remove and discard the HVAC module pass through seal.

To install:

  1. Install new HVAC module pass through seal.
  2. Install the HVAC module.
  3. Install the HVAC module mounting bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4. Install the air outlet ducts.
  5. Connect the electrical connectors.
  6. Install the right side rear quarter trim panel.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle.
  8. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core.
  9. Install the nuts to the HVAC module studs. Tighten the nuts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  10. Remove the cap or tape from the A/C lines.
  11. Install the new O-ring seals.
  12. Install the nuts to the evaporator core studs and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Fill the cooling system.
  15. Evacuate and charge the system.
  16. Leak test the fitting of the component.

Control Module



Removal & Installation



  1. Drain the engine coolant.
    CAUTION
    Before beginning this procedure, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section. Only a MVAC-trained, EPA-certified, automotive technician should service the A/C system or its components.

  2. Recover the refrigerant.
  3. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) carrier.
  4. Reposition the heater hose clamps using hose clamp pliers.
  5. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.
  6. Remove the retaining nut from the accumulator at the evaporator.
  7. Disconnect the accumulator from the evaporator.
  8. Disconnect the evaporator tube from the evaporator.
  9. Disconnect all of the electrical connectors to the HVAC module assembly.
  10. Remove the HVAC module assembly.

To install:

  1. If replacing the HVAC module assembly, transfer the components from the old HVAC module assembly as necessary.
  2. Install the HVAC module assembly.
  3. Connect all of the electrical connectors to the HVAC module assembly.
  4. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core.
  5. Connect the evaporator tube to the evaporator.
  6. Install the accumulator to the evaporator.
  7. Tighten the accumulator retaining nut to 40 inch lbs. (4.5 Nm).
  8. Tighten the nut to 40 inch lbs. (4.5 Nm).
  9. Install the I/P carrier.
  10. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system.
  11. Leak test the fittings of the components.
  12. Refill the engine coolant.

Control Panel


Removal & Installation



Bravada
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator.
  3. Remove the knee bolster trim panel.
  4. Remove the screws that retain the instrument panel accessory trim plate to the instrument panel.
  5. Remove the instrument panel accessory trim plate by releasing the retaining clips.
  6. Position the instrument panel accessory trim plate in order to remove the control switches.
  7. Remove the HVAC control assembly retaining screws.
  8. Depress the HVAC control assembly retaining tabs and remove the HVAC control assembly from the instrument panel.
  9. Disconnect the vacuum harness connector from the HVAC control assembly.
  10. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the HVAC control assembly.

To install:

  1. Connect the electrical connectors to the HVAC control assembly.
  2. Connect the vacuum harness connector to the HVAC control assembly.
  3. Install the HVAC control assembly to the instrument panel. Ensure that all 4 retaining tabs lock into place.
  4. Install the HVAC control assembly retaining screws and tighten to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  5. Install the instrument panel accessory trim plate clips to the instrument panel.
  6. Install the screws that retain the instrument panel accessory trim plate to the instrument panel and tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  7. Install the knee bolster trim panel.
  8. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Perform a heater function test.

Blower Motor


Removal & Installation



Body VIN Type 3
  1. Remove the HVAC module-auxiliary assembly.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors (4) from the blower motor-auxiliary (3).
  3. Remove the air outlet duct from the blower motor-auxiliary.
  4. Remove the screws (2,5) from the blower motor-auxiliary.
  5. Remove the blower motor-auxiliary (3).

To install:

  1. Install the blower motor-auxiliary (3).
  2. Install the retaining screws (2,5) to the blower motor-auxiliary. Tighten the screws to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  3. Install the air outlet duct to the blower motor-auxiliary.
  4. Connect the electrical connectors (4) to the blower motor-auxiliary (3).
  5. Install the HVAC module assembly.

Body VIN Type 6
  1. Remove the right rear quarter trim panel.
  2. Remove the retaining bolts (5) from the HVAC module-auxiliary (1).
  3. Remove the retaining nuts (4) from the HVAC module-auxiliary (1) under the vehicle.

  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors (3,4).
  5. Remove the blower motor screws.
  6. Remove the blower motor (1) from the HVAC module-auxiliary (2).

To install:

  1. Install the blower motor-auxiliary (1) to the HVAC module-auxiliary (2).
  2. Install the blower motor-auxiliary screws and tighten to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
  3. Connect the electrical connectors (3,4).
  4. Install the retaining bolts (5) to the HVAC module-auxiliary.
  5. Tighten the HVAC module-auxiliary retaining bolts (5). Tighten the bolts to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6. Install the retaining nuts (4) to the HVAC module-auxiliary (1) under the vehicle. Tighten the nuts to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  7. Install the right rear quarter trim.

Control Assembly


Removal & Installation



  1. Using a flat bladed tool, carefully pry out on the top of the HVAC control-auxiliary.
  2. Remove the HVAC control-auxiliary from the center console/seat.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  4. Remove the HVAC control-auxiliary.

To install:

  1. Connect the HVAC control-auxiliary electrical connector.
  2. Install the HVAC control-auxiliary in the console bottom first.
  3. Push in at the top of the HVAC control-auxiliary in order to engage the HVAC control-auxiliary in the console/seat.

Heater Core


Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Drain the engine cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
    Heater hoses from the heater core

  4. Remove the instrument panel as follows:
    1. Disable the air bag system.
    2. Set the parking brake and block the wheels.
    3. Disconnect the parking brake release cable from the parking brake lever.
    4. Unfasten the screws that retain the DLC instrument panel left side sound insulator. Feed the DLC through the hole in the sound insulator.
    5. Unfasten the right side sound insulator panel screws and remove the panel.
    6. Unfasten the screws that attach the instrument panel left side sound insulator to the knee bolster and cowl panel.
    7. Unfasten the nut that attaches the left side sound insulator to the accelerator pedal bracket.
    8. Unplug the remote control door lock receiver module electrical connector.
    9. Remove the door lock receiver module from the left side sound insulator. Remove the left side sound insulator.
    10. Unfasten the screws that attach the instrument panel center sound insulator to the knee bolster, instrument panel, heater assembly and floor duct.
    11. Remove the center sound insulator.
    12. Unfasten the screws that attach the courtesy lamp to the knee bolster.
    13. Unfasten the screws that attach the knee bolster to the instrument panel.
    14. Disconnect the lap cooler duct from the knee bolster.
    15. Unplug the lighter electrical connection and remove the knee bolster.
    16. Unfasten the steering column-to-instrument panel nuts and lower the column.
    17. Unfasten the screws that attach the instrument panel accessory trim plate to the instrument panel.
    18. Remove the trim plate and unplug all necessary electrical connection.
    19. Remove the heater and/or air conditioning control assembly.
    20. Remove the radio and the storage compartment assembly (if equipped).
    21. If necessary, remove the instrument cluster.
    22. Unfasten the left and right instrument panel pivot bolts and the panel lower support bolt.
    23. Unfasten the speaker grilles retaining screws and remove the speaker grilles.
    24. Remove the windshield defroster grille using a flat-bladed prytool. Start at one end of the grille and work your way down the grille.
    25. Unfasten the 4 instrument panel upper support screws.
    26. Tag and unplug all necessary electrical connections.
    27. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.

  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Air inlet assembly, if equipped
    Vacuum hoses
    Heater assembly studs, from inside the engine compartment
    Blower motor resistor
    Stud from inside the heater case assembly; the stud is located behind the blower motor resistor
    Heater assembly-to-chassis screws
    Heater assembly from the vehicle
    Access cover screws and cover from the heater assembly
    Heater core from the heater case assembly

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Heater core to the heater case assembly
    Access cover to the heater assembly and the cover screws
    Heater assembly to the vehicle
    Heater assembly-to-chassis screws and torque them to 40 inch lbs. (4.5 Nm)
    Stud, working from inside the heater case assembly; the stud is located behind the blower motor resistor
    Blower motor resistor
    Heater assembly studs, working inside the engine compartment, torque them to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm)
    Vacuum hoses
    Air inlet assembly, if equipped

  2. Install the instrument panel as follows:
    1. Rest the instrument panel on the lower pivot studs.
    2. Attach the electrical connections.
    3. Install but do not tighten the 4 upper instrument panel support screws.
    4. Install the left and right panel pivot bolts. Tighten the bolts to 102 inch lbs. (11.5 Nm).
    5. Install the panel lower support bolt. Tighten the bolt to 102 inch lbs. (11.5 Nm).
    6. Tighten the upper support screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    7. Install the windshield defroster grille and the speaker grilles.
    8. Install the radio and storage compartment assembly (if equipped).
    9. If removed, install the instrument cluster.
    10. Install the heater and/or air conditioning control assembly.
    11. Attach the electrical connections to the instrument panel accessory trim plate.
    12. Place the trim plate in position and install its retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    13. Place the steering column into position and install its retaining nuts. Tighten the nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
    14. Attach the lighter electrical connection and the lap cooler duct to the knee bolster.
    15. Place the knee bolster into position and install its retaining screws. Tighten the Torx® head screws to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm) and the hex head screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    16. Place the courtesy lamp in position and install its screws. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    17. Place the instrument panel center sound insulator in position. Install the screws that attach the center sound insulator to the knee bolster, instrument panel and the floor duct. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    18. Install the screw that attaches the center sound insulator to the heater assembly. Tighten the screw to 13 inch lbs. (1.5 Nm).
    19. Install the remote control door lock receiver module to the instrument panel left side sound insulator.
    20. Attach the door lock receiver electrical connection.
    21. Install the nut that attaches the left side sound insulator to the accelerator pedal bracket. Tighten the nut to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
    22. Install the screw that attaches the left side sound insulator to cowl panel. Tighten the screw to 13 inch lbs. (1.5 Nm).
    23. Install the screws that attach the left side sound insulator to knee bolster. Tighten the screw to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    24. Feed the DLC through the hole in the sound insulator, place the DLC in position and install its retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 21 inch lbs. (2.4 Nm).
    25. Install the right side sound insulator and tighten the screws
    26. Connect the parking brake release cable to the lever.
    27. Enable the air bag system.

  3. Install the heater hoses to the heater core.
  4. Refill the cooling system.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
