The fuel filter in your Mitsubishi 3000GT is there to keep the dirt and rust particles out of the fuel system. For optimal performance, some mechanics recommend that you replace the fuel filter every 30,000 to 40,000 miles.
Relieve the fuel tank pressure by loosening the fuel cap. Raise the vehicle. Find the fuel pump harness connector near the fuel tank and detach it. Start the engine and let it run until it stalls, and then turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Locate the fuel filter, which is attached to the inside of the fender panel near the engine. Take out the assembly that contains the air cleaner and remove the intake hoses. Next, remove the battery and its tray.
Remove the fuel lines from the fuel filter and then detach the bolts that mount it in place. Take out the old filter and put the new filter in the bracket, using new gaskets for installation. As you reattach the hoses, bolts and pipes, tighten the eye bolts to 22 ft=lbs. and the flare nut to 25 ft-lbs.
Make sure the mounting bolts are tightened completely, and then put the air cleaner assembly back, as well as the other items you removed. Reconnect the battery cable and put the fuel cap back on. Turn the key to the "On" position to re-pressurize the system. Start the engine of your Mitsubishi 3000GT and check for leaks.
