Remove the top radiator hose from the intake tube of the thermostat housing by removing the retaining clip that holds the hose to the intake tube. Pull the hose off the intake tube and pull up on it to drain the fluid into the radiator. Push the hose off to the side.
Remove the thermostat housing by removing the two bolts that hold it to the intake manifold, then pulling up on it. Inspect the bottom of the housing for any pieces of gasket that may have stuck to it. Remove any of these pieces with a scraper or razor blade.
Pull the thermostat out of the intake manifold and plug the hole with a towel. This will keep gasket pieces or other foreign material from falling into the engine.
Scrape the old gasket off the intake manifold with a razor or scraper. The surface of the intake manifold should be clear of old gasket before your remove the towel from the intake manifold.
Place a new thermostat into the intake, then place a small bead of RTV silicone on the bottom of the thermostat housing. Place the housing back onto the intake manifold and bolt it back into place. Each RTV silicone manufacturer will have its own specifications on silicone drying time. Adhere to the time indicated to ensure proper sealing.
Connect the radiator hose to the thermostat intake tube and secure it with the hose retaining clips.
