REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
1997-98 F-250HD, F-350 And F-Super Duty
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the cluster opening trim panel.
- On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the loop on the indicator cable assembly from the retainer pin. Remove the thumbwheel bracket screw from the cable bracket and slide the bracket out of the slot in the steering column tube.
- Remove the instrument cluster retaining bolts.
- Pull the instrument cluster out of the instrument panel.
- Detach the electrical connectors.
- Remove the instrument cluster.To install:
- The installation is the reverse of the removal.
- Connect the battery cable, and check the operation of all gauges, lights and signals.
WARNING
Prior to removal of module on an electronic instrument cluster, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester. This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed.
WARNING
Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
- Remove the headlamp switch.
- Carefully release the four clips and remove the steering column opening cover.
- Remove the instrument panel finish panel retaining bolts.
- Remove the instrument panel finish panel.
- Remove the instrument cluster retaining bolts.
- Pull the instrument cluster out of the instrument panel.
- Detach the electrical connectors.
- If equipped, remove the transmission range indicator.
- On the F-150 Lightning, disconnect the boost gauge vacuum line.
- Remove the instrument cluster.To install:
- The installation is the reverse of the removal.
CAUTION
Once the new module is installed, it is necessary to download the module configuration information from the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester into the new module.
1999-00 Super Duty Models
- Remove the radio.
- If equipped with tilt wheel, lower the steering wheel.
- Remove the cluster finish panel bolts.
- Pull the cluster finish panel from the instrument panel.
- Detach the power point connector.
- If equipped, detach the passenger air bag deactivation switch connector.
- Detach the headlight switch electrical connectors.
- Remove the cluster finish panel.
- Remove the instrument cluster screws.
- Pull out the instrument cluster.
- If equipped, disconnect the transmission range indicator.
- Push in the two clips and pull out the transmission range indicator. Position it aside.
- Detach the electrical connectors.
- Remove the instrument cluster.To install:
- The installation is the reverse of the removal.
