REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Front
- Raise and support the vehicle safely.
- Loosen the adjuster nut and disconnect the front cable from the connector.
- Disconnect the cable from the clip at the frame and the hanger.
- Lower the vehicle. Unfasten the retaining screws and nut, then lower the driver's side sound insulator panel to gain access to the parking brake pedal assembly.
- Remove the carpet finish molding and lift the carpet.
- Remove the cable retaining clip at the lever assembly.

- Disconnect the cable from the parking brake pedal by compressing the retainer fingers. Remove the cable from the vehicle.

To install:
- Insert the cable through the floor pan and grommet and seat the grommet.
- Install the grommet retainer to the floor pan.
- Install the cable in the retaining clips.
- Connect the cable and casing to the control assembly and seat the retaining tangs.
- Install the cable retaining clip at the lever assembly.
- Place the carpet in position and install the carpet finish molding.
- Install the driver's side insulator panel screws and nuts.
- Raise and support the vehicle safely.
- Install the cable to the hanger and clip at the frame.
- Connect the cable to the equalizer and connector.
- Adjust the parking brake cable and lower the vehicle.
Rear
There is a special tool available which is designed to compress the rear parking brake cable retaining tangs for removal from the brake backing plate; however, another method is illustrated in the accompanying figures.
- Raise and support the vehicle safely.
- Loosen the equalizer nut.
- Disconnect the cable at the equalizer and connector.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove the brake drum.
- Disconnect the cable from the parking brake lever.
- Disconnect the cable and spring from the bracket at the caliper.
- Use the proper tool, or follow the procedure shown in the accompanying figure to depress the retaining tangs and remove the cable and casing from the backing plate.

To install:
- Install the cable and casing to the backing plate and seat the retaining tangs.
- Connect the cable and spring to the bracket at the caliper.
- Connect the cable at the parking brake lever.
- Install the brake drum and the tire and wheel assembly.
- Connect the cable at the equalizer and connector.
- Adjust the parking brake cable and lower the vehicle.
- Set the parking brake pedal three clicks.
- Raise and support the vehicle safely.
- Lubricate the threaded adjusting rod on both sides of the nut.
- Tighten the equalizer nut until the right rear wheel can just be turned rearward with 2 hands but cannot be turned forward.
- Release the parking brake.
- Rotate the rear wheels in the forward motion. There should be no brake drag.
- Lower the vehicle.
