Fix For BIOS Corrupt

BIOS problem on Motherboard

Faulty Bios or Corrupt BIOS on PC Motherboard.

SYMPTOMS OF FAULTY/CORRUPT BIOS ON MOTHERBOARD:-----

  • If BIOS is corrupt there will NO Display on motherboard.
  • System gives continuous Beep when RAM Chips are removed, but when inserted the Motherboard will give No Display.
  • Continuous Beep irrespective of Ram memory removed or inserted.

NOTE:--- Many a times its actual case of faulty RAM memory chips.Try with working RAM chip and see if that is solving the issue.
But if the problem is same with New RAM chip too, then try cleaning the RAM slot with IPA solution, then see if that is helping. If not, then with any of these symptoms arrived, its BIOS issue.

The Reasons for BIOS Problem are :---

1) The BIOS EEPROM program in the chip is corrupted.

2) Its a actual faulty BIOS chip.

The solutions to solve these BIOS related problem:----

A BIOS chip needs 3.3 voltage to operate and start functioning. If these required voltage is not there, then it will not operate.
So in that case, check the VCC pin of BIOS chip. There should be 3.3 Volts on these BIOS chip Pin.
If the required 3.3 volts are not there on VCC pin, then you can apply jumper from adjacent resistor receiving 3.3 volts.
Once the chip receives 3.3 volts it should start operating.

NOTE:-- To know which is VCC pin on Particular BIOS chip.Get its Datasheet as per BIOS chip number mentioned on it.And that datasheet will show which pin is called what for that BIOS chip.

But if the required 3.3 volts are present on VCC pin of BIOs chip then other possibility can be low or no frequency for BIOS chip.

It can be tested with frequency testing meter. The meter which can measure Hertz(HZ).A common VOM meter will not help to measure frequency.

Now with frequency test meter, test the BIOS frequency on A49 pin of PCI slot.
Please note that these frequency has to be checked when system is started. If you do it in running board, then frequency might not be accurate.

Test the BIOS frequency on A49 pin for repetative high frequency at start u.

The frequency will go to 250 Khz,then Go to 350 KHZ, then go to Even more like 500 or 700 Khz then suddenly in few seconds come down to 60 Khz,then remain bit constant on 40 Khz and remain there,These says that BIOS is OK.

But if frequency is just getting to 150 Khz and remaining there without any low or high then its faulty BIOS.

Other option to test BIOS is with Debug card. These card has feature to check if BIOS is working or not.
It has LED light on its Card, that tells whether BIOS is booting right or not.

For SOP8 package BIOS chip with 8 legs( 4 Pins on each side). The frequency has to be checked on Pin number 2.you should get repetitive signals.

in case if the BIOS chip is not giving proper signals then its issue related to BIOS.

In that case there are two options, one is BIOS chip flashing. and other is replacing BIOS chip.

Getting another BIOS ( NEW) is bit difficult.
so the Same Model size BIOS has to be removed from another Board,to make it work.

Bios Re-flashing. There is a Card available in market to flash BIOS. Its a simple software related procedure and hardly take few minutes to flesh the BIOS. These card comes with instructional manual and BIOS software. All BIOS Type have there Particular software. Some software are provided with the BIOS flashing Card, but in case of not provided software, you have to download online or purchase these software from its supplier. Google search is best option to get details about the software.

BIOS flashing hardly takes few minutes. If you have all connections right and all required software.
But on some cases these flashing dont get completed, even though you have all required software,in that case its assumed that BIOS chip is faulty and another Working BIOS chip is required to make the Motherboard work.

In case of faulty BIOS the mother board will definitely turn ON,but there will be no display issue.

These details will help.
Thanks.
