Oil Fluid leaking out of Power steering

On such cases you will notice lot of noise from steering column and these problem starts due to oil seal getting hit or worn out and getting damaged.

To take care of these issue,the power steering assembly needs to be removed and new oil seal kit has to be installed.


One more thing there is a stop leak product for power steering. But it only works if it's a seal leaking, not for other problems. Also it will help in case of very minor leak.For major leaks it will not help.


On some cases the power steering fluid leaks after filling the fluid,if that's the case,may be its due to overflow of the fluid causing this.In that case you will have to soak out some fluid with sponge and bring the fluid level to its required level.

BUT,if you are confirmed that its not overflow but a certain leak,then it can be faulty power steering pump.


This pump generates hydraulic boost. This boost triggers the steering gear.
Steering gear in return  makes your front wheels move. Thus, this pump enables you to turn the steering wheel smoothly.

NOW if these pump is defective, you will notice problem when you park your vehicle,as it requires lots of power to park the vehicle. A fluid leakage could be the cause behind this faulty pump.

Also if you fill the wrong fluid,then also such problems are noticed.
It may damage your pump and spoil the entire mechanism. You must be wary about where you purchase this fluid from.


On some cases these fluid leaks are very minor or hidden leaks,that makes it very difficult to locate the fluid leaking area.

On such cases there is one simple procedure to locate the area where the steering fluid is leaking.

Open the hood,now in the engine area run your finger along the fittings and hoses that are connected to the power steering pump. If there is a hole  you should be able to find it.As the oil will leak out from there and that particular area will become bit sticky and you will feel that on your finger.
