Timing Belt Cover
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
2.3L 4-Cylinder Engine
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the cooling fan and shroud.
- Remove the drive belts.
- Remove the water pump pulley.
- Remove the 4 retaining bolts and lift off the timing belt cover.
- Clean all gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.
- Install the timing belt cover using a new gasket.
- Install the water pump pulley, and all drive belts.
- Install the fan and shroud.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.

- Remove the negative battery cable.
- Remove the drive belts.
- Remove the radiator fan, its pulley and the fan shroud.
- Remove the drive belts for the power steering belts and the air conditioning compressor.
- Beginning with the top cover, remove the retaining bolts and remove the timing belt covers.
- Clean all gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.
- Install the timing belt covers using new gaskets.
- Install the water pump pulley, and all drive belts.
- Install the fan and shroud.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
2.9L 6-Cylinder Engine
- Disconnect the negative battery lead.
- Remove the drive belt.
- Remove the lower timing belt cover, splash guard and vibration damper guard.
- Remove the ignition coil cover.
- Remove the upper timing cover.
- Install the upper timing belt cover.
- Install the ignition coil cover.
- Install the lower timing belt cover, splash guard and vibration damper guard.
- Install the drive belt.
- Connect the negative battery cable.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the coolant expansion tank and place it on top of the engine.
- Remove the spark plug cover.
- Remove the drive belts.
- Remove the fuel line clips.
- Remove the right front wheel and loosen the inner fenderwell.
- Remove the vibration damper guard and turn crankshaft pulley until the marks are lined up.
- Remove the water pump pulley.
- Remove the retaining bolts and lift off the timing belt cover.
- Position the timing belt cover in place and secure with the retainer bolts.
- Install the water pump pulley, followed by the drive belts.
- Install the remaining components.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
