how to replace a radio in a 2005 Chevy impala?

you will need to remove the dash trim to gain access to the radio so we will start there.
Use a 10-mm socket and ratchet to remove two (2) washer nuts from the inside of the small cubby hole under the radio and airbag switch. Set the washers aside. Remove two (2) 10-mm screws from the bezel below the steering column. Set the screws aside. Pull the bezel toward you releasing six (6) clips. On the passengers side, remove two (2) 10-mm screws on the lower bezel below the glove box. Set the screws aside. Pull toward you to release two (2) clips and a pin that is connected to the larger radio bezel.Remove the bezel that surrounds radio, climate control and instrument panel. Use a Dash Trim Panel tool (have to buy this) in the upper right corner of the bezel releasing the first clip. Continue working the bezel loose to all the way to the left of the steering column for a total of twelve (12) clips. Tilt the bezel out just enough to gain access to the screw that is on the right side of the radio.Remove the factory screw with a 9/32” socket & ratchet.
  • Pry the plastic ring around the ignition away from the steering column, using a flat-head screwdriver.

  • Remove the plastic covers over the dashboard fuse panels. Each panel is on the outermost side of the dashboard, near the door openings. Remove the panels by hand or by using the flat-head screwdriver to pry the panel open. Remove the screw above the fuses with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Press the two tabs on the panel below the steering column dash panel to release the closeout panel. Remove the two screws that are revealed by the removal of the closeout panel, using the Phillips screwdriver.

  • Pull the dash panel below the steering column away from the dashboard. Remove the screw at the bottom of the upper panel, just to the left of the steering column, using the Phillips screwdriver.

  • Remove the two screws on the upper dash panel above the speedometer, using the Phillips screwdriver.

  • Disconnect the dashboard panel near the right fuse compartment, and pull it away from the dashboard. Work your hands along the top and bottom edges of the panel, removing it from the dashboard, all the way to the left fuse compartment.

  • Disconnect the electrical wiring that connects the hazard light switch and the traction control switch to the dash panel. The wiring is connected by plastic connectors that you pull from the switches by hand.

  • Instrument Panel & Pad

To install the radio follow this procedure :---

Remove the two phillips-head screws on either side of the dash trim bezel using the phillips-head screwdriver. Place the nylon pry bar between the trim bezel and the surrounding dashboard, then tilt the pry bar back to pop the panel off of the dash. Remove the two phillips-head screws underneath the gauge cluster using the phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Pull off the trim panel below the steering column using your hands. Unscrew the two screws in the knee panel using the phillips-head screwdriver. Unclip the knee panel from the dash using your hands. Remove the single screw to the right of the steering column using the phillips-head screwdriver. Pull off the entire dash bezel from the dashboard. Unbolt the stereo from the dashboard using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket, then slide it out of the dashboard and unplug all connections to the stereo. Leave these connections hanging out of the dashboard.

  • Install the vehicle-specific dash kit into the dashboard using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Take the cage from the aftermarket stereo and put it inside of the dash kit. Secure it to the kit using the flathead screwdriver. Use the wire strippers to remove the end of the wires on the wiring harness that came with the new stereo as well as the vehicle-specific wiring harness. Match up the colors on the two harnesses. Crimp the matching colors together using the wire crimpers and the blue butt connectors.

  • Plug in the end of the harness you just made in Step 3 onto the harness hanging out of the dashboard. Plug the other end into the back of the replacement stereo. Plug the antenna lead into the back of the replacement stereo. Mount the stereo inside the cage. Reassemble the dashboard in the reverse order of disassembly.
