2001-02 Models
- Place a shop towel under the fuel pressure regulator, then relieve fuel pressure as outlined in this section.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose (A) and fuel return hose (B).
- Loosen the locking nut (C), and remove the fuel pressure regulator (D).
To install:
- Apply clean engine oil to a new O-ring (E), and carefully install it into its proper position. Install the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel joint. Turn it by hand until stops.

NOTEReplace the O-ring.
- When assembling the fuel pressure regulator, apply clean engine oil to the O-ring and assemble it into its proper position, taking care not to damage the O-ring.
- Reconnect the vacuum hose and fuel return hose.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II), but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel pressure in the fuel line rises. Repeat this 2 or 3 times, then check whether there is any fuel leakage.
- Remove the fuel tank unit, as follows.
NOTEFuel tank unit removal requires the use of a Fuel Sender Wrench, special tool no. 07AAA-S0XA100 or equivalent.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Remove the driver's side second row seat.
- Cut the carpet at the dotted line (A). Be careful not to cut the wire harness under the carpet.
- Remove the access panel from the floor, then disconnect the fuel pump 5P connector.
- Remove the fuel fill cap.
- Relieve fuel pressure.
- Disconnect the quick-connect fitting from the fuel tank unit.
- Using the special tool, loosen the fuel tank unit locknut (A).
- Remove the locknut (A) and fuel tank unit (B).
- Remove the clip (A).
- Remove the fuel pressure regulator (B).
To install:
- Install the regulator in the reverse order of removal with new O-rings (C).
- Align the marks (C) on the fuel tank (D) and the fuel tank unit, then install the fuel tank unit in the reverse order of removal with a new gasket (E).
- Install the fuel tank in the reverse of the removal procedure.
