How To Test Engine Fan on Toyota Sienna?

The Engine fan testing and Engine Fan Switch Testing Procedure for Toyota Sienna is as follows:----

Electric Engine Fan
ELECTRIC FAN SWITCH Details are mentioned below with proper diagrams:----

Testing
The cooling fans are operated by the coolant temperature sensor and fan relays.
  1. If the cooling fan is not operating check the following:
    1. Check the engine coolant temperature sensors and replace if defective.
    2. Remove the cooling fan relay marked -FAN NO.1- from the underhood fuse/relay panel.
    3. Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity between terminals 1 and 2. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
    4. Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity between terminals 3 and 4. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
    5. Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 and 2. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
    6. Using an ohmmeter, check there is no continuity between terminals 3 and 4. If there is continuity, replace the relay.

    7. Remove the cooling fan relay marked -FAN NO.2- from the underhood fuse/relay panel.
    8. Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity between terminals 1 and 2. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
    9. Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity between terminals 3 and 4. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
    10. Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 and 2. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
    11. Using an ohmmeter, check there is no continuity between terminals 3 and 4. If there is continuity, replace the relay.
    12. Using an ohmmeter, check there is no continuity between terminals 3 and 5. If there is continuity, replace the relay.

    13. Remove the cooling fan relay marked -FAN NO.3- from the underhood fuse/relay panel.
    14. Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity between terminals 1 and 2. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
    15. Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity between terminals 3 and 5. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
    16. Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 and 2. If there is no continuity, replace the relay.
    17. Using an ohmmeter, check there is no continuity between terminals 3 and 5. If there is continuity, replace the relay.
    18. Start the engine and raise the temperature of the coolant to above 90 degrees C (208 F), then turn the engine off.
    19. Disconnect the NO. 1 fan electrical connector.
    20. Connect the battery and ammeter to the cooling fan connector as illustrated.
    21. Check that the cooling fan rotates smoothly and the ammeter reads ID mark S1 is 8.5-11.5 A at 20 degrees C (68 F) and the ID mark T1 is 14-20 A at 20 degrees C (68 F).
    22. Reconnect the fan connector.
    23. Use the same procedure for the NO. 2 fan. If defective, replace the electric fan assembly.

  1. Make sure the engine temperature is below 95 degrees C (203 F).
  2. Turn the ignition ON and the A/C switch OFF. The fan should not operate.
  3. Turn the ignition ON and disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor disconnected. The fan should operate.
  4. Make sure the engine temperature is above 97 degrees C (207 F).
  5. Start the engine and allow to reach operating temperature, then make sure the A/C switch is OFF.
  6. When the coolant temperature is above 97 degrees C (207 F), the fan should operate.
  7. Let the engine temperature fall below 95 degrees C (203 F) and the fan should turn off.
  8. If the cooling fan is not operating check the following:
    1. Check the engine coolant temperature sensor and replace if defective.
    2. Disconnect the fan electrical connector.
    3. Connect battery voltage to terminal S+ and ground terminal S-. The fan should operate.
    4. Measure the amperage, if the amperage is 10.6 to 11.6 amps, replace the motor.
