how to replace the evaporator fan on hot point side by side refrigerator

  • Unplug the refrigerator power cord from the electrical socket. If you are unable to reach the power cord, turn the circuit breaker to the appliance off.

  • Open the freezer door. Remove all food items from the top shelf of the freezer in front of the evaporator fan and place them in an ice chest or on different shelves in the freezer.

  • Grasp the top freezer shelf with one hand on each side. Slightly lift the shelf and slide it forward out of the freezer.

  • Remove the back panel of the freezer covering the fan by unscrewing any screws or pressing in on clips to release them. Pull the top of the cover down at an angle and pull it out of the freezer. Remove screws in the fan housing by turning them counterclockwise. This will give you access to the fan wiring.

  • Remove the two screws holding the fan-mounting bracket to the back wall of the freezer. Pull the evaporator fan out from the bracket. Observe the two to three wires on the motor to take note of their color and position.

  • Place a pair of needle-nose pliers on one side of a wiring connector. Grasp the other end of the connector with the other hand and pull the connector apart with the pliers. Repeat this process to disconnect each of the additional two or three wiring connectors. Pull the fan out of the freezer and set it on a flat surface with the blades facing up.

  • Slide a small flat screwdriver under the clip in the center of the blades. Pry the clip off and remove the fan blades straight up from the motor.

  • Align the fan blades on the new motor and replace the clip to hold them in place. Hold the new fan inside the freezer near the wiring. Press the wiring connectors together with the correct color wires in each position. Set the motor in position in the freezer, place the mounting bracket over it and tighten each screw in a clockwise direction.

  • Replace the fan housing screws and tighten them clockwise. Place the back panel in the rear of the freezer while aligning the screw holes. Replace the screws and tighten them. Snap a back panel into the freezer by sliding the edges underneath the clips.

  • Replace the shelf and food in the freezer and turn the power on.
