Low oil pressure light ON
2007 Jeep commander oil warning light stays ON
The problem persisted all day (it had rained this morning) . I went outside 30 minutes ago and it started right up. The oil pressure light stayed on after the other idiot lights went off. When driving, the car smells like gas or oil inside. Any thoughts?

The oil light staying on is often caused by a bad oil pressure sending unit. If the PCM doesn't see the switch closed at start-up for a certain amount of time it will set a fault code and leave the gauge down or warning light on. Sometimes it will go back to working normally again after a key cycle if the sender starts working again. If you aren't hearing any abnormal knocking or ticking noises from the engine then it's probably just a bad sender.
The Common reasons For car smells like gas
There are quite a few things that could be causing gas smell. Something under the hood has to be leaking and it's pulling the fumes inside through the fresh air intake in the wiper cowl. If it's a fuel leak that would leave only the fuel line, injectors, injector O rings or the fuel rails themselves as the possible leak points. It's uncommon to have a fuel leak but can happen, if you think you're smelling fuel I'd definitely get it looked at quickly because of the fire hazard.
Possibility For Oil Smell:
If it's actually oil you are smelling it could be from a leaking valve cover, timing cover, PCV hose, oil cap left off, or even the oil sender. Often these oil senders will rupture and leak oil into their connector and cause the oil light to come on. If yours has ruptured it could be the cause of both the oil smell and the light staying on.
Things You can Try:
Take a look under the hood and see if you can find anything before driving it. Make sure there aren't any large oil leaks that you can see and see if there are signs of a fuel leak. You can cycle the key a few times to pressurize the fuel system and help determine if there is a leak. Also make sure the oil is full before driving it just in case you do have a large leak.
