Door Panels

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove all door inside handles.

3. Remove door inside locking rod knob.
4. Remove screws inserted through door armrest and pull handle assembly into door inner panel or armrest hanger support bracket.

5. On styles with remote control mirror assemblies, remove the remote mirror escutcheons and disengage the end of the mirror control cable.

6. On styles with power window controls located in the door trim assembly, disconnect the wire harness at the switch assembly.

7. Remove the remote control handle escutcheons screws.

8. On styles with integral armrests, remove the screws inserted through the pull cup into the armrest hanger support.
9. Remove screws and plastic retainers from the perimeter of the door trim pad using tool BT-7323A or equivalent and a screwdriver. To remove the door trim panel, push trim upward and outboard to disengage it from the door inner panel at the belt line.
10. On styles with courtesy lamps located in the lower area of the trim panel, disconnect the wiring harness at the lamp assembly.

To install:

Before installing the door trim panel, check that all trim retainers are securely installed to the panel and are not damaged. Replace damaged retainers as required.

11. Connect electrical components where present.
12. To install the door trim panel, pull door inside handle inward; then position the trim panel to the inner panel, inserting door handle through hole in panel.
13. Position the trim panel to the door inner panel so trim retainers are aligned with the attaching holes in the panel and tap the retainers into the holes with a clean rubber mallet.

14. Install the armrest into the inner panel or armrest hanger support brackets. Assemble the locking rod knob, then all inner door handles.
15. Connect the negative battery cable, reset the clock and radio.

Electric Window Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1. Remove the door trim panel and inner panel water deflector.
2. Raise the window to the full up position and tape the glass to the door frame using cloth-backed tape.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4. Remove the lower sash bolts.
5. Punch out the center pins of the regulator rivet. Drill out rivets using ¹ / ₄in. (6mm) drill bit.
6. Move regulator and motor assembly rearward, then remove the electrical connector.
7. With the regulator in the door, drill out the regulator-to-motor rivets using a¹ / ₆ in. (4mm) drill bit, then remove the motor.

To install:

8. Install and connect the window motor.
9. Use ³ / ₁₆ in. (5mm) rivets or ³ / ₁₆ in. (5mm) nuts and bolts to install the motor to the regulator.
10. Connect the electrical wiring, then install the regulator and door inner panel using a ¹ / ₄ in. (6mm) rivets.
11. Install the lower sash bolts, tighten to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
12. Install the water deflector and remove the tape from the window.
13. Connect the negative battery cable, reset the clock and radio.

Disconnect the battery negative cable, carefully remove the door panel, make sure you remove all the visible hold down screws holding the arm rest and other things in place, be careful and observant, don't force anything. If you don't have the standard door panel removal tools, use a stiff putty knife or a wide screwdriver to remove the door panel, you will have to get the power window control switch and the lock control rods out of the way, take notes so you know how they go back together, Remove the plastic weather protection shield out of the way, try not to tear it because you will want to replace it using a good contact adhesive. Getting the motor and the lift mechanism out is the biggest challenge, There are two big rivets holding the motor and regulator assembly to the door, there are two more rivets closer to the rear of the door that holds the track and window guide in place. the rivets are difficult to drill out because it's not easy to center punch them. I used my 4 inch grinder to remove the rivet heads, be careful not to injure yourself or grind through the door metal. knock the rivets out. Remove the power supply wire from the motor. Use a 10 MM socket to untighten the two cap screws that hold the lift bracket to the bottom glass channel. Don't take the cap screws all the way out. Use a piece of wire to hold the window in the closed position. Loop the wire over one of the hold down cap screws and fasten the other end through one of the convenient holes near the top of the door. Now comes the good part. the motor and lift mechanism is all in one near rigid piece. The seat belt anchor blocks the door panel opening that would make it relatively easy to remove. Don't give up, the unit will come out with some thoughtful manipulation, the V shaped track guide will tolerate a small amount of flexing, don't overdo it. I finally got the assembly out by moving it as far to the back of the the door cavity as possible, use the angles of the assembly to your advantage to free it from the door. Once free, use a black marker to ensure you align your new motor in the correct postition. If you are replacing a complete assembly that looks the same a the part you removed, install by reversing the above directions. If you are replacing only the motor, drill out the two rivets that hold the motor to the lift assembly. this will be asy to do. fit your new motor in the exact same position, referring to the previous marks you made. If you are reusing the old lift mechanism, you should pull the perforated tape out of the guide, clean, inspect it, the guide and the tape, relubricate it, I used white grease, there is probably a better grease available. The motor assembly I received from an internet supplier came with rivets and machine screws to install the assembly, I used 1/2 quarter twenty nuts and bolts to replace the big rivets, I don't have a big enough rivet gun. If you go the quarter twenty way, use thread lock, install with bolt heads on the inside the door and flat washers and nuts to the car interior. Be observant, I left the plastic bracket that attaches the drive tape to the window bottom in an unsecure place, one of my dogs used it as a chew toy,so it was off to the junkyard one more time. Be sure to secure the tape properly at both ends. If it worn or frayed, several suppliers including rockauto supply them at reasonable cost.

Door Glass and Regulator

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

CAUTION

When working on vehicle glass, always wear eye protection and gloves to reduce the risk of injury.

Door Glass

1. Remove the door trim panel and inner panel water deflector.
2. Raise the window to the full up position, then tape the glass to the door frame using cloth-backed tape.
3. Remove the bolts holding the lower sash channel to the regulator sash.
4. Remove the rubber down stop at the bottom of the door by pulling carefully.
5. Attach the regulator handle and run the regulator to the full down position. Remove the regulator sash by rotating 90° (one-quarter turn) and pulling outward.
6. While supporting the glass, remove the tape and lower the window to the full down position. Disengage the front edge of the glass from the glass run channel retainer. Slide the glass forward and tilt slightly to remove the guide from the retainer in the run channel.
7. Using care, raise the glass while tilting forward and remove glass inboard of the upper frame.
8. To install, reverse the steps. Use liquid soap solution on the rubber down stop before installing the trim parts, then check the window for proper operation and alignment.

Door Glass

See Figures 1 and 2

1. Remove the door trim panel and inner panel water deflector.
2. Raise the window to the full up position, then tape the glass to the door frame using cloth-backed tape.
3. Remove the bolts holding the lower sash channel to the regulator sash.
4. Attach the regulator handle and run the regulator to the full down position.
5. While supporting the glass, remove the tape, then lower the window to the half down position.
6. Wrap tape around the blade of tool J-245895B or equivalent. Insert a tool between the guide and the glass at the fastener and carefully pry apart.

7. Using care, raise the glass while tilting forward and remove glass inboard of the upper frame.
8. Remove the guide from the rear of the run channel weatherstrip metal retainer and discard of the guide.

To install:

9. Replace the guide on the glass by using heat on the guide with a hot air gun, or soak it in hot water for about one minute.
10. Install the guide to the glass by aligning to hole in glass, then carefully press the guide together at the fastener location.

11. Install the glass and lower it about halfway.
12. With one hand on bottom edge, rotate the glass rearward to snap the guide into the retainer.
13. Reinstall the regulator handle, then bolt the lower sash channel (on the window) to the regulator sash.
14. Install the water deflector.

Regulator
MANUAL

See Figures 3, 4 and 5

1. Remove the door trim panel and inner panel water deflector.

2. Raise the window to the full up position, then tape the glass to the door frame using cloth-backed tape.
3. Remove the lower sash bolts.
4. Punch out the center pins of the regulator rivet. Drill out the rivets using a ¹/ ₄ in. (6mm) drill bit.
5. Remove the regulator through the rear access hole.

To install:

6. Use a hand rivet tool J-29022 or equivalent and install the regulator to the inner panel using ¹ / ₄ in. x ¹ / ₂ in. aluminum peel type rivets, part No. 9436175 or equivalent.

7. If a hand rivet tool is not available, install U-clips on the regulator at the three attaching locations. Be sure to install the clips with cinch nuts on the outboard side of retainers.
8. Slide the regulator through the rear access hole, then align the regulator attaching clips with the holes in the inner panel. Attach regulator metal retainers with ¹ / ₄ in. - 20 x ¹ / ₂ in. (6mm - 20 x 13mm) screws. Attach the housing part of the regulator with a ¹ / ₄ in. - 20 x ¹ / ₂ in. screws into ¹/ ₄ in. (6mm - 20 x 13mm) nuts with integral washers. Tighten the bolts to 90-125 inch lbs. (10-13 Nm).
9. Install the lower sash bolts.
10. Remove the tape from the door glass and frame.
11. Install the inner panel water deflector and door trim panel.

ELECTRIC

See Figures 3, 4 and 5

1. Remove the door trim panel and inner panel water deflector.
2. Raise the window to the full up position. Make sure to disconnect the negative battery cable before working with your electric window regulator.
3. Tape the glass to the door frame using cloth-backed tape.
4. Remove the lower sash bolts.

5. Punch out the center pins of the regulator rivet. Drill out the rivets using a ¹/ ₄ in. (6mm) drill bit.
6. Remove the glass as stated previously, then move the regulator and motor assembly rearward, and remove the electric connector. Remove the regulator and motor assembly through the rear access hole.

To install:

7. Use a hand rivet tool J-29022 or equivalent and install the regulator to the inner panel using ¹ / ₄ in. x ¹ / ₂ in. (6mm x 13mm) aluminum peel type rivets, part No. 9436175 or equivalent.
8. If hand rivet tool is not available, install U-clips on regulator at three attaching locations. Be sure to install clips with cinch nuts on outboard side of retainers.
