Ice Maker Is Not Working Properly Or Is Not Making Ice At All

If your ice maker is not working properly, do the following:

Check the water supply valve. Make sure it is fully open.
If your refrigerator was just installed, and the doors were removed, make sure the wiring harness was properly installed. Click here to go to Were The Refrigerator Doors Recently Removed article in this guide for instructions.
If your refrigerator is not newly installed, and your refrigerator has a water dispenser, check the water flow from the dispenser.

If the water flow seems slow or weak, replace the water filter regardless of the age of the water filter. Click here to view the Water Filter Part Number and Replacement Instructions in this guide.
If the water flow seems normal, bleed all the air from the system. To bleed the air from the system, dispense approximately 1 gallon of water from the water dispenser on the front of the refrigerator.

Make sure the ice maker is turned on by selecting cubed or crushed ice.
Make sure the refrigerator doors are fully closed.
Check the freezer temperature. The recommended freezer temperature is -2 deg.
Reset the ice maker by pressing the reset button. click here to go to the Ice Maker Reset Button Location in this guide. After resetting the ice maker, wait 24 hours and check to see if ice production has begun.

If your ice maker is not producing ice after you've followed all the suggestions above, your refrigerator needs service. Please click the Create Online Service Request button below to initiate the service process.


Test the Icemaker

For RS*** Series models, do the following: Underneath the front of the icemaker assembly is a small black button. If you press and hold this button for three seconds, the icemaker should rotate the ice tray and dump its contents. (Be sure to place a pan or other container below the ice tray to catch whatever ice and water is ejected.)

For RSG*** series models, do the following: Remove the plastic cover that covers the ice maker, then press and hold the clear gel button for eight seconds.

Note: If the doors were removed for installation purposes, the wiring on the top of the freezer door hinge may not be properly connected, please click here to download the users manual for door removal and replacement procedures.

Ice Maker Reset Button Location

Remove the icemaker housing. Underneath the front of the icemaker assembly is a small black button. If you press and hold this button for three seconds (8 seconds if you have an RSG model), the icemaker will rotate the ice tray and dump its contents. (Be sure to place a pan or other container below the ice tray to catch whatever ice and water is ejected.)

Notes:

After the ice maker resets, the tray will return to the level position, and the sensor arm will drop down. If this does not happen, the refrigerator requires service. Please click the "Create Online Service Request" button below to initiate the service process.
Side by side refrigerators use 2 different types of ice makers. Please see the illustrations below for the reset button location on your ice maker.
