  • 1

Open the door and slide the trim tool between the switch bezel and surrounding door panel.

  • 2

Pry the bezel out of the door panel, carefully. This may require you to pry in the front and back of the bezel alternately until it comes free from the retaining clips holding it to the door panel.

  • 3

Turn the bezel over so you can access the wiring harness attached to the bottom of the window switch.

  • 4

Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the switch by depressing the retaining clip with the pocket screwdriver and carefully pulling the connector away from the switch.

  • 5

Push the old switch down and out of the switch bezel by hand.

  • 6

Push the replacement switch into the bezel in reverse of how you removed the old one.

  • 7

Plug the replacement switch into the wiring connector and test it to make sure the power window operates properly.

  • 8

Reinstall the switch bezel into the door panel by lining it up so that the retaining tabs are over their mounting holes and pushing down gently but forcefully until it snaps back into position.

  • How to Remove a Ford Explorer Door Panel

  • Gather tools and park your Explorer in a well-lit location. You will be working with electrical components, so disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.

  • 2

Use the trim panel tool or flathead screwdriver to pry off the small trim panel surrounding the interior door handle. Once the trim panel is unclipped, pull the handle towards you to slide the panel around it.

  • 3

Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the two mounting screws beneath the door panel armrest.

  • 4

Pry the edges of the door panel from the interior part of the door. Insert the trim panel tool or the flathead screwdriver to do this. The door panel is attached by several clips. When tugged, the panel will pop free from the clips mounted to the door panel.

  • 5

Pull the door panel up to separate it from the power window control switch panel. Disconnect the electrical connection to remove the power window switch panel, if desired.

  • 6

Unhook the power mirror switch connection from the door panel (if equipped) and the connection for the door panel courtesy light.
