2006 VW Jetta Air conditioner Problem

Volkswagen jetta A/C is not blowing cold.

The compressor is replaced,receiver/drier is replaced, expansion valve is replaced, also refrigerant is filled.

The compressor is getting 14v from the wiring harness but the high and low side of the system both stay at 80 psi

Note:-- On 2006 VW jetta model there is no clutch it has a compressor control valve.

The voltage goes from 0v to 14v when the auto function is turned on and off, you can say the clutch signal is turning on and off with the AC being turned on.So the voltage goes from 0v to 14v.

The better possible details regarding the problem:----

If you are getting power to activate the compressor and only seeing 80 psi pressures on both low and high side port, then either the pump isn't turning on or it is weak/wiped out and equalizing.

If your pressure is static at all times like it sounds, then that pump isn't turning. The pump is turned on via 12V to the control valve and a fixed ground..... meaning since you have 12V with the AC turned on, you either have a bad regulator valve/compressor (not too likely since it is new) or a damaged ground wire from the valve.

Get these possibilities checked first.

Also while filling refrigerant in new A.c system place it in a vacuum first.

Pull a vacuum on the system down to -30 inhg for half-an hour. Then let it to sit for about 30 mins to ensure there are no leaks in the system.

After that you can recharge the system as per specifications came with compressor manual or as per vehicles owner's manual instruction for recharging A/C system.

Test the voltage at the wire coming out from compressor connector.
There will be two wire, one negative and other positive.

You should get 12V signal coming from the AC control head and ground wire going to the front body ground. The 12V signal is turned on/off by the AC control head.... the ground never changes. If the 12V is there from the control head and the pump is not coming on, either there is a problem with the valve/pump or there is a problem with the ground wire.

=======
As its already mentioned that there is 14v on at compressor control valve,if you have voltage at the regulator valve, that is what turns it on. If it isn't turning on, there is something wrong with the valve or the compressor is bad.And compressor is new and valve is getting voltage so the   fault can be pump not turning ON.

If pump is checked ok,then may be new compressor unit is come faulty. In rare cases such things happen.

=========
Another possibility, if for example the pressure switch goes out of range, it shuts down the AC as a safety mechanism. These happens, By cutting the power to the regulator.

==================

one more thing you can try and check is ,

Connect the connections directly and see if compressor opeates or not,

See if you can hear the valve change when you apply voltage and ground and when you remove it (engine off so you can hear). If you can, the only other thing is problem with plug in the line ports of the compressor that you didn't see.... though on this one the plugs usually are large/bolt on if you get an OEM unit.

Also this compressor has an internal safety switch in-case if  there is a low freon scenario.

The line pressure switch is the low pressure safety.
The compressor has a high pressure safety that is a valve that will discharge refrigerant over ~450 psi or so.

Do the direct connection (both 12V and ground) and listen for activation.

You just put a direct connection to the compressor from the battery .The battery is 12 volt part and compressor operates on 12 volt.So direct connect of battery to compressor will let you know if its compressor issue or its wiring issue.

now if the AC head is sending the proper voltage when the AC is turned on/off, the ground is properly checked intact, and you not being able to activate the solenoid for the control valve, I don't see any other reasonable explanation other than the compressor/valve being defective. So get the new compressor exchanged from the shop.

These details and testing will help.
Thanks.

Chrysler Error Code P1598

A/C Not working and Error code P1598 present. The Problem noticed on 2003 Chrysler Grand Caravan.

Troubleshooting from Free car repair guide.
ARE THIS BOTH PROBLEMS INTER RELATED?

Yes,they are.A/C not working and error code P1598 are related to each other.
The error code is pointing towards the faulty part, that needs to be inspected to make your Air-conditioner work as before.

OK,WHAT PART IS THE ERROR CODE INDICATING TO CHECK?

OBD Error code P1598 indicates problem with a/c pressure transducer.

OK,GOOD GIVE ME MORE DETAIL ABOUT THIS?

Yes sure, the a/c pressure transducer is a pressure sensor on an a/c line. The transducer tells the power train control module(PCM) the actual pressure in the high side of the a/c system. The Error code P1598 is telling you to inspect, test the A/c pressure transducer.

OK,WHERE IT IS LOCATED AND WHY THE A/C COMPRESSOR IS NOT ENGAGED?

To locate this part,See behind the air filter box , mounted to the right strut tower you will find the receiver/drier. There is a small line leaving the top of the drier that goes back to the firewall.
Now on this line you will see a pressure sensor screwed on.
This has a three wire gray color electrical connector. This is the transducer.
Without it's proper signal the a/c compressor isn't going to engage. And that is why in your case too,the compressor is not getting engaged. So its very clear indication to get the Transducer checked and replace if faulty.

CAN I TEST THE TRANSDUCER BEFORE REPLACING IT?
YES Definitely, you can test it.before replacing the part. The testing will give you exact confirmation, that you are replacing the part which is actually faulty.

THAT'S GOOD,GIVE ME THE PROCEDURE?

To test this part you will require digital voltmeter. Now follow this process, unplug the transducer and turn the key on. See if there are two wires with 5v and ground on the third. If all three are ok then the wiring is good, replace the transducer.

If you don't have a voltmeter to do the testing then I would recommend replacing the transducer.Because as per the OBD error code and your problem description, its pointing towards faulty Transducer.

This details will help.
Thanks.

AUTO A/C COOLING PROBLEM?

You turn ON the car, then turn ON the AC ,but you notice no cooling or very less cooling. You try to set cooling level. But its set properly and cooling is not there.
So this indicates there is cooling problem on your car AC.

This problem has many reasons. Its not one possibility.
The problem is one but possibilities are many.

  • If refrigerant is low Ac will not cool or cool less.
  • If compressor is not turning on Ac will not cool.
  • If magnetic compressor clutch will not engage, then AC will not cool.
  • If AC controlling fuse or relay is blown, the AC will not cool.
  • If the compressor or clutch wiring's are short or loose then AC will not cool.

LOW REFRIGERANT:---
If you notice the Ac is not cooling due to low refrigerant, then its very much possible that refrigerant is got leaked or its getting blocked. The refrigerant can leak from compressor,or from O-Ring seals,or from hole in evaporator or condenser ,or the hoses are cracked or the cooling line from where refrigerant passes is got cracked. Before you recharge the AC refrigerant, its better to trace the leak, then get the leak sealed,by silicon sealants or from refrigerant sealants, then after its confirmed that leak is sealed, recharge the AC.

But if the refrigerant is not leaking, then its low refrigerant in the system.
The refrigerant trips low pressure switch .When low pressure switch trips, then only compressor clutch will engage. If the pressure of refrigerant is less, then low pressure switch will not get tripped. If the pressure switch is not tripping, the compressor clutch will not engage. If the compressor clutch is not engaging then compressor will not start.
NOW why the refrigerant pressure is low.The reason for this is refrigerant. If the refrigerant is got low in the system, then refrigerant pressure will be low.So in this case refrigerant needs to be recharged.

If you need procedure to check AC refrigerant pressure.

BUT if the refrigerant is not leaking and refrigerant is not low and still you notice no cooling problem, then other possibility is problem with compressor magnetic clutch. The clutch should engage, then only compressor will will run and you get cool air. The compressor magnetic clutch will not engage due to faulty /short fuse or problem with clutch wiring. You need to test voltage at clutch. If you get voltage at clutch, this indicates that clutch wiring and fuse is ok.
But still with clutch getting voltage,if compressor is not getting engaged then problem is faulty magnetic clutch. The clutch needs to be replaced. So first confirm that refrigerant is not low or leaking. If refrigerant is low, then also clutch will not engage. But if refrigerant is proper and magnetic clutch is showing voltage, that means clutch wiring is not the issue, but clutch itself is faulty and compressor magnetic clutch needs to be replaced.

NOW if clutch is engaging but still compressor will not start or compressor makes noise, then compressor belt needs to be checked. If the compressor belt is looking intact, then problem is compressor itself.
Getting compressor replaced,is a technical job, should be done by proper Car AC tech or by professional HVAC tech.

Compressor getting failed is rare.Compressor is a strong part. But compressor usually fails due to its parts and supplies not maintained properly.Regular maintenance for compressor is required.Every six to eight months get your car AC components inspected and serviced in routine check up, by your local garage.Or at least you can Inspect the AC related parts.

AUTO Air Conditioning Troubleshooting?

http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/10/auto-air-conditioning-troubleshooting.html

Compressor fails due to no lubrication done.If refrigerant gets low, the compressor has to work hard/run more to cool the inside of car and maintain its cooling level. If refrigerant and oil gets blocked the compressor load increases. The refrigerant and oil are parts which circulated through out compressor. If this liquid components are getting clogged or getting blocked in between due to any kind of dirt or dust in cooling line then compressor load increases. The compressor gets over heated. This decreases the life of compressor.
The compressor related problem are not one shot problem. This problems when started are not even noticed, because the problem is minor.Slowly slowly this problem gets major, when you notice no cooling or low cooling problem. And then the parts needs to be tested and replaced. So getting AC cooling system parts and other car engine and mechanical parts tested as routine check up helps to cure this problem and also it will not let this problem occur very soon. Also if any part is weak, you know that you can receive such problems in future. So you are ready to take action against that coming problem.

This troubleshooting will help you,to take care of your car AC cooling problems.
