First There Are Few Doubts?

Where you physically unable to move the transfer case handle, or did it move fine but is stuck in four wheel drive?

Now Suppose,
If you were unable to move the handle then it could be a linkage issue, snow or ice packed on the left side of the transfer case where the linkage needs to be able to move, or it could be an internal failure in the transfer case.

Think About another option,
If you were able to move the shift handle fine but it's still stuck in four wheel drive then it could be an internal transfer case issue but it's more likely to be a tire circumference issue. If you have one or more tires that isn't almost exactly the same circumference then it will cause it to stay in four wheel drive. If any tires were replaced while leaving other worn ones on, the spare is on, or you have one or more tires under inflated then it will cause this.

And What About The Smell Issue,Is It Related To Shifting Issue?

As for the smell, that wouldn't appear to be related to the transfer case issue unless there is fluid leaking from it onto the exhaust or something like that. I would recommend an inspection of the exhaust system to see if there is something leaking on it or possibly some road debris like a plastic bag has gotten stuck to it and is melting.A proper inspection will give you confirmation.

If Any oil / fluid leak is noticed, don't avoid the issue, get the leak stopped then continue further troubleshooting.

This details will help.
Thanks.

Dodge Ram 4x4 light keeps flashing

4X4 Low light is Flashing on Dash

The 4x4 Wheel drive low light flashes when shifting and when the shifting is complete the light should go steady  instead of being flashing.

BUT,if the 4WD low light is flashing instead of lit up solid then please check whether the the shift is completed or not OR else  it isn't actually in four low mode.

YES, its agreed that the switch may have been placed into four low but the shift will not complete unless the correct conditions are met .
The correct procedure to complete the shift in four wheel low drive is place the switch in four low and after that rolling 2-3 MPH with the transmission in neutral.
Its very common the 4WD light will flash until the correct conditions are met.But once the shift completes then the light will be lit up solid. Only when the light is on solid is it actually in four low.

AS PER OUR AUTO GARAGE REPAIR EXPERIENCE,

IT SEEMS LIKE .............

The vehicle is actually not got properly engaged in four low, it sounds like the knob is just turned and it didn't shift.
Yes,its very true,this happens many a times.

ABOUT THE PROBLEM OF 4WD low light flashing ,
Either way, as long as it's driving normal and you don't hear any abnormal noises from the engine or drivetrain, and there are no leaks, then you don't have anything to worry about.

Just dont ignore the issue get regular maintenance /servicing done,if its not done yet.

These basic troubleshooting details should help.
Thanks.

2008 Toyota Tundra: 4x4 Wheel Drive Light is Flashing?

4WD light is Flashing. In such cases you will also see the VSc warning light coming ON,And also in some cases ABS light too comes ON.

The common issiue for the four-wheel drive light to be flashing is usually related to tire size difference from front to rear. This can be caused by lack of rotation or lack of four-wheel drive usage on a consistent basis to wear the tires unevenly front to rear. The four-wheel drive light flashes because the system has not met the requirements necessary to engage four-wheel drive. It can be due to binding in the transfer case or in the front differential automatic disconnecting assembly. There have been several issues with the actuator that is bolted to the back of the transfer case sticking and binding due to infrequent use. My recommendation would be to put the vehicle on the lift or get all four wheels off the ground. Meet the requirements necessary to engage four-wheel drive. Once you get the transfer case functioning work the actuator into four-wheel drive and out of four-wheel drive several times to work the mechanisms and the drive motor assembly. Once that is working normally engage four-wheel drive low so that the portion of the actuator gets used and works properly. If you do not use the four-wheel drive low often enough that section of the drive motor in the actuator can bind and freeze due to lack of use. The vehicle skid control (VSC)  light more than likely is coming on by default due to the malfunction before drive system.

The ABS light comes on by default with the vehicle skid control light. If there is a malfunction in the ABS system due to a bad wheel speed sensor this could affect four-wheel drive engaged in operations.

To Retrieve the error codes stored in ABS control module, the procedure is as follows:---

You can use the jumper wire in the DLC connector under the left side instrument panel.
Once the jumper wires installed in be careful that you do not spread the terminals apart otherwise a scan tool not read correctly. Turn the key to the on position and monitor the ABS and VSC lights. They will flash a pattern of flashes. For example a code 31 would flash thrice a slight pause then one flash. If there other codes they will follow. If by jumping this wire you get no reaction then this year does not use that option.

This details will help.
Thanks.

4x4 will not engage on Ford F150?

The problem noticed on 2006 ford f-150 model.
The electronic 4 wheel drive will not engage.

There is actually a ford TSB for this concern which states the shift motor encoder is at fault and a new shift motor is the fix.The shift motor mounted on the transfer case is not just a motor but also a encoder. The encoder tells the module what position the motor is in. When the encoder fails the module puts everything on hold and does not move in fear of causing damage. In the TSB you are instructed to use a scan tool and pull the codes from the 4x4 module and if you do get a certain code then replace the shift motor which just requires a 10mm ratchet and socket and needle nose pliers and a pick.
This will help.
Thanks.

4x4 front differential will not engage the axle on ford?

First of all inspect the vacuum actuator and front differential.
Are they both functioning or not.If not, then it has to be replaced.
Inspect vacuum actuator on front diff and the 2 solenoids on firewall.

Basically in this types of problem,
shaft spins but the axles dont and no light on the dash.

On basis of this problem, try this troubleshooting procedure.
Take the vacume pod off the front diff and see if you can manually engage the rh axle shaft, this is a common failure that the shift collar and gear gets stripped and dont engage the rh axle shaft. This is assuming the vacume pod has sufficient vacume from the actuator solenoid and the pod does not leak and is actually moving. To repair this you will need to remove the rh axle housing and disassemble and replace the shift collar and gears( ford has a repair kit for this).

If you switch two vacuum hoses and everything works correctly then,
the solenoid(disengage ) is being commanded on by the GEM . So if you disconect the power connetor does the vacume stop flowing on the disengage solenoid? If so then your going to need to have a scan tool to find out why the GEM module is commanding the solenoid on.

This will help.
Thanks.
