Wheel Speed Sensor Removal
Before Starting With Wheel Speed Sensor Its Advisable To Go Through Jeep Liberty Wheel Bearing Removal Procedure.
That makes Wheel Speed Sensor Removal Procedure Much Easier.
WHEEL SPEED SENSOR:---
Removal / Installation
Front
Raise vehicle and turn wheel outward to access the sensor.
Disconnect sensor wire connector at harness plug.
Remove sensor wire from mounting retainers.
Clean sensor and surrounding area with shop towel before removal.
Remove bolt attaching sensor to steering knuckle and remove sensor
To install:
If original sensor will be installed, wipe all traces of old spacer material off sensor pickup face Use a dry shop towel for this purpose.
Apply Mopar®Lock N- Seal or Loctite t 242 on bolt that secures sensor in steering knuckle. Use new sensor bolt if original bolt is worn or damaged.
Position sensor on steering knuckle. Seat sensor locating tab in hole in knuckle and install sensor attaching bolt finger tight.
Tighten sensor attaching bolt to 34-50 inch lbs. (4-6 Nm).
If original sensor has been installed, check sensor air gap. Air gap should be 0.40 to 0.0157 to 0.051 inches (1.3 mm). If gap is incorrect, sensor is either loose, or damaged.
Route sensor wire and install into mounting retainers.
Connect sensor wire to harness
CAUTION
Never allow the disc brake caliper to hang from the brake hose. Damage to the brake hose with result. Provide a suitable support to hang the caliper securely.
Remove the disc brake rotor.
Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt to the hub .
Remove the wheel speed sensor wire from the hub/bearing .
Remove the wheel speed sensor wire hold down from the knuckle .
Remove the wheel speed sensor wire thru the wheel well.
Remove the wheel speed sensor from the vehicle.
To install:
Install the wheel speed sensor to the vehicle.
Install the wheel speed sensor wire thru the wheel well.
Install the wheel speed sensor wire to the hub/bearing.
Install the wheel speed sensor wire hold down to the knuckle.
Install the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt to the hub. Tighten the mounting bolt to 120 inch lbs. (13.5 Nm).
Install the disc brake rotor.
Install the disc brake caliper adapter.
Install the tire and wheel assembly.
Reconnect the front wheel speed sensor wire connector to the inboard side of the wheel house being worked on.
Rear Wheel Sensor Removal
Disconnect sensors at rear harness connectors.
Remove wheel and tire assembly.
Remove brake drum.
Remove clips securing sensor wires to brake lines, rear axle and, brake hose.
Unseat sensor wire support plate grommet.
Remove bolt attaching sensor to bracket and remove sensor
To install:
If original sensor is being installed, remove any remaining pieces of cardboard spacer from sensor pickup face. Use dry shop towel only to remove old spacer material.
Insert sensor wire through support plate hole Then seat sensor grommet in support plate.
Apply Mopar®Lock N- Seal or Loctite t 242 to original sensor bolt. Use new bolt if original is worn or damaged.
Install sensor bolt finger tight only at this time.
If original rear sensor was installed, adjust sensor air gap to 0.011-0.059 in. (0.28-1.5 mm). Use feeler gauge to measure air gap . Tighten sensor bolt to 106-124 inch lbs. (12-14 Nm).
If new sensor was installed, push cardboard spacer on sensor face against tone ring . Then tighten sensor bolt to 106-124 inch lbs. (12-14 Nm). Correct air gap will be established as tone ring rotates and peels spacer off sensor face.
Secure the rear sensor wires to the retainer clips. Verify that wire is clear of rotating components.
Connect sensor wire to harness connector.
Install brake drum and wheel and tire assembly.
Lower vehicle.
Connect sensor wire to harness connector
Raise vehicle on hoist.
Disconnect the sensor wire harness.
Remove mounting stud from the sensor.
Remove sensor.
To install:
Connect harness to sensor. Be sure seal is securely in place between sensor and wiring connector.
Install O-ring on sensor (if removed).
Insert sensor in differential housing.
Install the sensor mounting stud and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm) .
Install the sensor electrical connector.
Lower vehicle.
Understand Procedure For Removing LOCKING HUBS:
Assembly
Verify pressure plate tabs are seated on the dog clutch slots.
Place actuator on the pressure plate and case bearing on the case.
Install differential case bearings with Installer D-156 and Handle C-4171.
Disassembly
Install Plug C-293-3 into the differential axle shaft hole.
Remove differential case bearings with Puller 6444, Puller Rods 6444-3 and Puller Flange 6444-1 Position puller on the differential.
Position Puller Jaws 6444-7 around the case bearing and puller flange.
Position Puller Collar 6444-8 around the puller jaws.
Tighten the puller nut and remove differential case bearing.
Remove actuator.
