Distributor Problems On Nissan

"Distributor" replaced But still the problem continues

Car only runs for a few minutes then dies and will not start again for few minutes.

After that it will start but do the same thing.

Solution:----
If you continue to have good spark when this is happening, then you need to check the actual fuel pressure with a pressure testing gauge tool.  If the spark is not there and the distributor you put in is an aftermarket one (not from the dealer), then that's most likely your problem.

Here is the basic procedure to replace the Distributor:---

If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine.

  • For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them.
  • Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes to reflect how your engine is wired.

Here the Distributor Removal Procedure Starts:----

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Set the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC) with the number 1 piston on compression stroke.
Remove and label the distributor spark plug wires from the distributor cap.
Remove the distributor cap and scribe a mark on the engine block to show both rotor and distributor position prior to removal.
Disconnect and label the wiring connections to the distributor.
Remove the bolt(s) holding distributor to engine.
Pull the distributor upward to remove from cylinder block.

Do not disturb the camshaft or crankshaft position after the distributor is removed from the engine. If any of the components are moved, TDC on cylinder 1 will have to be found again before reinstalling the distributor.

INSTALLATION

Engine Not Disturbed
Install a new distributor housing O-ring.
Install the distributor in the engine so the rotor is aligned with the matchmark on the housing and the housing is aligned with the matchmark on the engine. Make sure the distributor is fully seated and the distributor gear is fully engaged.
Install and snug the hold-down bolt.
Connect the distributor pickup lead wires.
Install the distributor cap and tighten the screws.
Install the spark plug wires and the splash shield.
Connect the negative battery cable.
After the ignition timing has been adjusted, tighten the hold-down bolt(s) to 80-104 inch lbs. (9-11 Nm).

Engine Disturbed
Install a new distributor housing O-ring.
Position the engine so the No. 1 piston is at TDC of its compression stroke and the mark on the vibration damper is aligned with 0 on the timing indicator.
Install the distributor in the engine so the rotor is aligned with the position of the No. 1 ignition wire on the distributor cap. Make sure the distributor is fully seated and that the distributor shaft is fully engaged.
Install and snug the hold-down bolt.
Connect the distributor pickup lead wires.
Install the distributor cap and tighten the screws.
Install the spark plug wires, and the splash shield, if equipped.
Connect the negative battery cable.
After the ignition timing has been adjusted, tighten the hold-down bolt(s) to 80-104 inch lbs.

NOTE:  Maximas from 1993-94 with the VG30E engine are the only models that use a distributor type ignition system.
