Chrysler TC by Maserati: 1989 Chrysler TC by Maserati will turn over but not start


TURNS OVER BUT NOT START

QUESTION:



Its 1989 Chrysler TC by Maserati with 40k mi. Vehicle has been parked in garage for nearly last 2 years. Now while starting (after replacing battery) it turns over but does not start. A nearby mobil auto mechanic check it out and said injectors weren't receiving fuel. Auto technician replaced fuel pump and fuel filter but vehicle however does not start. Experimented with replacing fuel pump relay but still does not start.

What do you highly recommend?

(Note: mechanic did not depressurize the fuel system before replacing pump, but did attempt to depressurize it afterward by following service manual's guidelines to connect wires to prongs on plug in wiring harness at fuel rail (?) and connecting ends to positive terminal of battery and ground.

Now these is what he did.Is this the correct plug?

Do you think that the no start problem is caused by not depressurizing the system?)


At present there is spark received and fuel pump turns over for 2 seconds while turning the Key on.
Please help!!!!

According to me it appears like the issue is with reduced power to the fuel pump resulting in these dilemma.
The pump could be lacking power but it might also be losing ground.

Did your mechanic examined to ensure that there are two power feeds to the relay with the key on?

If not get it done,these will help to confirm the problem.

To execute these test you'll possibly need to check with a test light or voltmeter. There must be two power feeds there.

If power is ok then jump connection between pin 30 and 87 of the relay and see if the fuel pump turns on.

If it does not come on then the second step is access the pump again to check power and ground to see which it's missing and go from there.

Suppose if the relay power feeds are ok but there is no power at the pump when it's jumped then the wire is damaged in between someplace and the circuit will possibly need to be hardwired or the split located and fixed.

If the pump does in fact have power but is missing ground then it's either going to be a wiring issue or a corroded ground.

So all in all here are fairly a few possible issues and it's going to take some tests to figure out exactly why the pump isn't operating. You can start by verifying the power feeds, jump the relay and see what happens, and then check for power and ground if required.

Nissan Car turns over for a second then dies?

This is a symptom of a bad fuel pump relay, the relay located in the engine compartment under hood. Check the relay.
It's a fuel issue.An automobile engine needs two things to work....fuel and fire.Gas and a Hot Spark.The most overlooked(sometimes hard to get to)is the fuel filter.The fuel pump will either work or it won't.If the Fuel filter has never been out,you should replace it anyway before you throw any more money under the hood.The fuel pump is in the gas tank which requires you to drain and drop the tank.Start with the basics and keep up on the simple stuff.Your car will start for you every time.

next thing to test is fuel pressure. Need to make sure it is getting fuel and the pressure is enough as well.

The fuel pressure you can get it tested at local car garage or if you gauge fuel pressure testing gauge tool, then you can do it yourself:---

Fuel pressure should be 49 to 51 psi.

Other part that can stop car for getting started is faulty or dirty maf sensor:---

maf sensor is located in the air duct.

Just past the air cleaner somewhere in that pipe / tube assm. is where its located.


To Clean a Nissan Mass Air Flow Sensor

The mass airflow sensor (MAF) in your Nissan vehicle measures the amount of air going into the engine. If the MAF sensor sends the wrong signal to your car's computer-because of dirt or other contamination around its sensing elements--your engine will be fed with the wrong amount of air/fuel mixture.

  • Park your Nissan vehicle in a safe place, with enough room for you to work around the front of the car. Open the hood.

  • Locate the MAF sensor electrical connector. The sensor is mounted in the fresh air intake duct--close to the throttle body, fuel-injection system or air-filter housing, depending on your Nissan model.

  • Remove the MAF sensor mounting screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Set the screws in a safe place; then remove the air-cleaner duct or air-intake assembly to reach the sensor inside the system. Depending on the model of your vehicle, you might need to remove one or more clamps using a standard or Phillips-head screwdriver, or disengage wire clips to take the air-intake assembly apart.

  • Dismount the sensor from the air-intake assembly, being careful not to damage the sensor's electronic sensing elements.

  • Spray the MAF sensor wires or grid (sensing elements) with electrical component cleaner or MAF sensor cleaner. (See Tips for more information.) Rub dirt and contaminants off the sensor elements using a soft brush, until the wires and sensor components are completely clean.

  • Mount the cleaned MAF sensor in the air-intake assembly. Install the air-intake assembly, plug in the sensor electrical connector and install the sensor mounting screws.

  • Other possibility are weak battery or shorted starter or loose connection at battery, low fuel clogged filter, timing issue, faulty crank sensor.Ignition switch issue.-------
