Lincoln Gear Sift Cable Replacement

How to remove and install Lincoln Gear Shift Cable

Gear shift cable broken and needs to be replaced.

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

4 Clips Holding Gear Shift Console

Gear shift console removal Diagrams :---

At our auto garage we have seen lots of such cases,where customer gets issue with gear shifing and gear shift console needs to be removed.

Actually you have to replace the flat black plastic that fits around the shift lever and it slides from front to back on the track when you shift from Park to different gears. This flexible plastic split out and you notice gear shifting problem.

For that you have to remove the gear shift console.

There are 4 clips holding the console from bottom side.

To disengage/release the clips you need to use a "flat-bladed tool" . There are sometimes plastic tabs that slip into metal clips that hold these trim panels in place.
If you don't have flat plastic tool, then as we do in out auto garage ,you can use a screw driver (flat-bladed tool) to press on different sides of those clips while gently pulling on the bezel at the same time. Once you press on the correct spot, the bezel should start to lift out.
Dont just pull the bezel out,there is electric connector under that.The connector has to be disconnected first then remove the bezel out.

Transmission is shifting erratically?

Erratic shifting noticed while driving.

In this problem,there are few possibilities,that are to be checked and inspected.

The list of possible parts to be inspected are as follows :----

Inspect & Check Transmission Modulator(Automatic).If Modulator Is Leaking Fluid into the Vacuum System the Erratic transmission shifting will be noticed.

Inspect & Check Transmission(Capacity).If the transmission Fluid Level Incorrect then erratic Shifting will be noticed.

Inspect & Check Transmission Fluid Type.If Transmission fluid is Contaminated Or wrong Transmission Fluid is filled then Shifting problems will be noticed.

Inspect & Check Transmission Filter (A/T).A Clogged or Dirty Transmission Filter can cause shifting problems.

Inspect & Check Automatic Transmission.In some cases Its Internal Transmission Problem.This has to be checked by Proper transmission repair service shops.
