dome lights will stay ON all the time?

This problem is noticed on many car/auto models.
In this particular case the problem is noticed on 1998 jeep grand Cherokee.

First of all make sure the dimmer switch on the dash isn't in the ON position.

After that the door ajar switches would be the most likely culprit. They are a plunger style switch in the door openings, and these are the first things to consider in this situation.

You can go around to each door one by one and lean on the door to see if you can get the lights to go out. If you find a door where you can get the lights to go out then you've found the one with a bad switch.

Otherwise, you could go around and unplug them one by one to isolate which one is keeping the lights on.
